The name on the licence, the voice on the phone, and the reputation across a good chunk of greater Austin all belong to the same man: Nick Green.
Nick Green came to Austin from England and brought a proper trade with him.
He earned his Texas Master Plumber licence — No. 17508 — back in 1989, and he's held it ever since. That's not a round number chosen for a slogan; it's the date on the state's roster. Thirty-six years of it, spent largely inside the older homes of central Austin, where the plumbing has opinions and the surprises are frequent for anyone who hasn't seen them a hundred times before.
The standard doesn't change
Nick built his reputation on a simple, slightly old-fashioned idea: do the work well, tell people the truth, and charge a fair price for it. Homeowners write about the same things again and again — that he explains what he's doing, that he doesn't upsell, that he once told them a part was available free from the manufacturer and saved them a small fortune, that he turns up when he says he will and rings back when he says he will.
That's a standard, not a company size. It's the reason his number gets passed around Austin neighbourhoods the old way, one satisfied homeowner to the next.
About that motto
Nick's line is "The British are plumbing!" — a Paul Revere joke delivered with a completely straight face. The joke has an extra layer he rarely points out: his middle name is genuinely Paul. So it's Nicholas Paul Green, riffing on Paul Revere, while being both British and, in fact, plumbing. Some jokes are just meant to be.
Known around town
Over the years, local news has rung Nick when Austin's rare hard freezes send pipes bursting across the city — the sort of moment when a plumber who understands why southern homes are uniquely vulnerable is worth listening to.
